HST – The Brave New World |
 | This session will focus on the new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) in British Columbia and Ontario that came into effect July 1, 2010 as it affects small and medium size businesses. Although the HST has often been viewed as simply a "super-sized GST", there are many important differences between the two taxes that affect most companies. The new HST applies to all GST registrants, even companies that are not located in British Columbia or Ontario. This session is intended to review some of the problems related to the transition from the Ontario Retail Sales tax and British Columbia Social Services Tax and to examine how companies were able to successfully handle these difficulties. Michael will share some real life example of problems and solutions that helped his clients cope with the new tax and will talk about potential risk areas in the Brave New World of the HST. |
